Post Details
The University of Oulu is recruiting two Doctoral Researchers to conduct research on innovative high-risk, high-gain concepts for developing hydrogen-resistant steels. The research combines experimental and computational approaches to investigate hydrogen embrittlement, advanced steel microstructures, and sustainable materials for future hydrogen infrastructure.
The selected candidates will work with internationally recognized researchers and receive comprehensive training in advanced characterization techniques, micromechanical testing, numerical modelling, CALPHAD simulations, finite element analysis, and scientific publishing.

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants should have:
- Master's degree in a relevant engineering or science discipline.
- Academic background in materials science, metallurgy, or mechanical engineering.
- Interest or experience in physical metallurgy and material characterization.
- Good analytical, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Excellent command of English.
Candidates with experience in steel metallurgy, hydrogen embrittlement, synchrotron analysis, CALPHAD modelling, finite element simulation, COMSOL, Abaqus, or microstructural characterization will have an advantage.
Fellowship Details
- Fellowship Amount: Starting salary approximately €2,800–€3,200 per month (before taxes), based on the Finnish university salary system.
- Duration: 3.5 years, starting on 1 September 2026 or as agreed.
